DISPERSAL ORDER AUTHORISED TO REDUCE ASB
A dispersal order that enables police to move on anyone causing antisocial behaviour (ASB) has been authorised for parts of Manton.
Following consultation with the local council and partner agencies, the order aims to help reduce incidents of ASB, as uniformed officers can ask people to leave the area and/or give notice not to return within 24 hours.
Anyone found to return to the area after being directed to leave under the order can be liable to arrest.
Between 9pm and 6am, a uniformed officer can also return anyone under 16, who is not under effective control of a parent or responsible adult and found within the area covered by the dispersal order, back home.
The order begins on Thursday (1 July) and will run until 30 November 2010.
The following area is covered by the dispersal:
Shrewsbury Road, Radford Street to Hardwick Road East, Hardwick Road West, Featherstone Avenue, Rushey Close and Manton Villas.
PC Matthew Barnes, beat manager for the area, said: “Antisocial behaviour affects people in different ways. While we have done a lot of work to make people feel safer and reduce antisocial behaviour, the dispersal notice is another tactic to help combat the problem caused by a small amount of young people who cause misery to others. Those who fail to adhere to the dispersal order can expect to be dealt with appropriately.”
