Sports Facilities To Be Proud Of At Manton Athletic Club

New sports facilities constructed at Manton Athletic Club on Retford Road are now very near to completion. An extension housing superb changing rooms have transformed the front of the club, creating a large patio area overlooking the sports field and new multi games areas.

The new facilities will be launched with a day of fun for all the family at the Manton Club fields. In the afternoon Sport England will be hosting a variety of taster sessions in different sports, and from 5pm onwards a mini-tournament will take place followed by the official launch.

Manton Club secretary Brian Hopkinson said, ‘Its taken a long time to be developed but now its all worthwhile – it really is something to be proud of in our area.’ In addition to the new multi games areas and changing rooms, the entire sports field has been levelled, making it far better for field sports like football and cricket. Brian praised the foresight of Manton Community Alliance who provided funding to pay for the research and planning for the developments. Brian said, ‘The whole development has cost nearly one and a half million pounds; the funding provided by the Alliance paved the way for this investment in the area’s facilities’. He said, ‘John Mann MP was instrumental in securing much of the additional funding from Sport England, supported by the Big Lottery Fund, The Football Foundation, and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust’.

Brian thanks everyone who has been involved throughout the development of the facilities and looks forward to the official launch of the facilities and their future success.
